Counselling is still a social stigma in the Indian society. People have lot of misconception about the processof counselling.counselling is not a magic wand to make any one feel happy just like that.

One of the simplest things that counselling offers people is the opportunity for them to talk about their feelings. For some counselling provides their first experience of revealing their true feelings to anyone. Talking alone can enable these individuals to experience a feeling of relief – like a heavy weight has been lifted off them.

In a recent survey by the IACP people who had been for counselling identified “being listened to” as one of the benefits of counselling. Counsellors listen to clients using active listening skills so that clients can experience being deeply “seen” and “heard”

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples
falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.” – Louise Erdrich
